Here, two of the foremost potters of the 20th century meet: Wilhelm Kåge (1889–1960), artist and designer at Gustavsberg's porcelain factory, and Shōji Hamada (1894–1978), a leading figure in mingei, the Japanese folk craft movement. Kåge and Hamada shared a strong sense of the unique properties of clays and glazes and wanted to create more beautiful objects for everyday life.
They visited each other in Sweden and Japan and exchanged ideas. In cultural exchanges between Sweden and Japan, they also became soft power tools used to strengthen national friendships, collaborations and trade.
The book is in Swedish, with an English translation at the end of the book.
