Art Bulletin of Nationalmuseum, Volume 26:1

The Art Bulletin of Nationalmuseum is a journal that focuses on the history and theory of art, and is published in English. New for this year, 2020, is that Volume 26 is being produced in two issues; the first of these features in-depth examinations of the most significant acquisitions, in the form of scholarly articles.

The first fourteen articles have an emphasis on the acquisitions of Old Masters dating from the art of the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, as well as older applied arts. They reflect both the history of collecting and significant works in the older European visual arts. Although the articles are mainly written by the museum’s scholarly staff, contributors include international colleagues and specialists, such as Michael Yonan, professor of art history at the University of California, Davis. His article offers an interpretation of Martin van Meytens’ portrait of court jeweller Johann Michael von Grosser, included in Nationalmuseum’s collections.

The second part of the Art Bulletin of Nationalmuseum (volume 26:2), is scheduled for publication later on.

The content of the two issues makes it clear that, in addition to the Wiros Fund and the museum’s own foundations, the Friends of Nationalmuseum is the major contributor to these rich acquisitions. They have also paid for the publication of the two issues that constitute Volume 26
